the rim, the bottom plaque is made out of Pine, c. 1880
Attributed to Captain Sandsbury (1830-1902), Sandsbury put in 20 years on board the South Shoal Lightship (1872-1892), the last 12 as captainHe is the only documented lightship basket maker of the 19th centurywho made a stationary handle basket, there are three sizes known, all ovalform; 8”, 12” and 18”.
