8 ½” Shallow round Nantucket lightship sewing basket with two Oak bail handles, Oak staves and rim. The bottom plate is turned from a think piece of Mahogany, the interior with three concentric lines and a brass tack, with the bottom bearing the original label and price. Made by Frederick Chadwick (1857-1936), c. 1930.Chadwick worked a good part of his life at the Fire Department on the Island, he was also a carpenter, and worked at the Old Mill. His earliest known dated basket was made in 1918.
